Income Tax Dept warns public against cash dealings of Rs 2 lakh or more saying that the receiver of the amount will have to cough up an equal amount as penalty.

Net direct tax collection up 6.04 % in April-Jan

The Centre's net direct tax collections grew 6.04 per cent in April-January 2015 at Rs. 4.74 lakh crore (Rs 4.47 lakh crore).Gross direct tax collections for the period under review increased 11.37 per cent at Rs. 5.78 lakh crore (Rs 5.19 lakh crore).
While gross corporate tax collections grew 11.28 per cent at Rs. 3.65 lakh crore (Rs 3.28 lakh crore), gross personal income tax collections were up 11.29 per cent at Rs. 2.07 lakh crore (Rs 1.86 lakh crore).
Securities transaction tax (STT) collections during April-January 2015 were at Rs. 5,556 crore, an increase of 44.12 per cent.
Advance tax collections grew 13.26% during April-January 2015. The growth rate in advance tax collections was 8.71 per cent in the same period last fiscal.
In the case of tax deducted at source (TDS), growth was 7.79 per cent as against 16.65 per cent in same period last fiscal.
